Arriving by train is the easiest way to reach the temple. Vijayawada Junction is roughly 4 km from Kanaka Durga Temple (sources range from about 2 to 5 km), and on a normal day the drive takes about 10 minutes. On festival days, allow extra time. 

How to get there 

Temple buses: they normally leave from the railway station about every 20 minutes. Ask at the station or the bus stop outside for the temple-bound service. 

Auto or cab: ideal if you have luggage, children or elders with you. Agree on the fare before you start. 

On foot: not recommended with bags, but the walk can work early in the morning if you are travelling light. At the hill, choose between the ghat road and the steps. 

Make the most of your day 

Drop your bags at a nearby hotel or guesthouse first. Some stays are just a few hundred metres from the station. 

Go for early-morning darshan. Temple hours normally start at 4:00 am. 

Carry only a small bag. Expect security checks and queue management on festival days. 

Plan your return before you go up the hill, as autos may be scarce at peak times. 

Festival-day crowd tips 

October 16 (Mula Nakshatram): students and parents visit in large numbers to see the Goddess as Sri Saraswati Devi. 

October 18 and 19: Durgashtami and Mahanavami are among the most important days of the festival. 

October 20: Vijayadashami. The Hamsa Vahanam Teppotsavam takes place on the Krishna in the evening.
